Aftab Karma Singh Pureval has been re-elected as Mayor of Cincinnati, Ohio, winning a decisive second term against Republican challenger Cory Bowman, the half-brother of U.S. Vice President JD Vance. The Democratic incumbent secured nearly three-fourths of the total vote share, credited to his focus on community policing, affordable housing, and small-business support. Born in Ohio to a Tibetan mother and Indian father, Pureval became Cincinnati’s first Asian-American mayor in 2021. In 2022, he met the Dalai Lama in Dharamshala, expressing solidarity with Tibetans and reaffirming his pride in his Tibetan heritage.
