Chinese Disinformation Campaign Fails to Disrupt Tibetan Elections

A Chinese disinformation campaign known as Spamouflage attempted to disrupt the recent Tibetan parliament in exile elections. According to researchers at the Digital Forensic Research Lab, the Beijing linked network used 90 Facebook and 13 Instagram accounts to push fake narratives. Using artificial intelligence generated images, the network attacked the re elected Sikyong Penpa Tsering and questioned the legitimacy of the voting process. Despite these sophisticated tactics, the operation largely failed to gain authentic traction among the Tibetan diaspora. The accounts relied on ordinary profiles rather than established pages, limiting their reach and overall impact on the election.
