The European Parliament overwhelmingly adopted a resolution Thursday condemning China's "Ethnic Unity Law." Lawmakers warned the legislation, effective July 1, systematically erases Tibetan culture by mandating Mandarin in public life. The resolution firmly rejects Beijing's interference in the succession of the Dalai Lama and demands the immediate release of political prisoners, including the Panchen Lama. To combat transnational repression, the Parliament urged EU member states to suspend extradition treaties with China and called for targeted sanctions against responsible officials. The Central Tibetan Administration praised the decisive 439 to 52 vote as a vital act of international solidarity.
